A brief analysis of the Fairfield County Judicial System.

A brief analysis of the Fairfield County Judicial System.

A case was filed against Cory McMaster on 11.22.2013. The charges included 4: Kidnapping (Felony -1st degree), Attempt to Commit (Felony - 3rd degree), Abduction (Felony - 3rd degree) and, finally, Domestic Violence (Misdemeanor - 1st degree).

Cory McMaster was released on his own recognizance on 2.3.2014. He was due to be sent to a Knox County facility but, due to overcrowding (or so we are told), Cory McMaster was released.

Cory McMaster was arrested on a bond violation on 3.13.2014. He had removed the GPS monitor that the judge had required him to wear. His original bond was reinstated on 3.19.2014.

As of 3.29.2014, Cory McMaster has pled guilty to Abduction (Felony - 3rd degree) and Domestic Violence (Misdemeanor - 1st degree).
Cory will spend 5 years in probation of the toughest sort. Check-ins with his probation officer, drug tests. He’ll even have to wear that GPS monitor. If Cory McMaster fails to comply with his plea deal, it is said that he will spend 2 years in jail.

Cory McMaster has two additional cases filed with Fairfield County.
Both cases are initiated by Child Support Enforcement
There was a case filed on 7.30.2008 that has been reopened.
There was a case filed on 10.16.2012 that has been closed.

These are Traffic and Criminal cases.

The question is this: How did this 27 year old male get 5 years of probation with a record that proves that he cannot abide by those guidelines?
How is it that this 27 year old male with a history of menacing and stalking, with a history of violence, is sentenced to so little?

Is it because the authority in Lancaster, Ohio is brushing these cases to the side because they dean these cases unimportant?
Is it the lack of concern for domestic violence, child abuse, and child support enforcement that enables abusers to continue the legacy of Fairfield County?

Is Cory McMaster’s mother, Rhonda McMaster (aka, “Rhonda Spires”, aka “Rhonda Bodamer”, aka “Rhonda Spires”, aka “Rhonda Scarberry”), to blame?

The following facts are hardly admissible in court. It is easily determined, though, how this young man came into this life.

Cory McMaster has had several last names, several fathers. Rhonda McMaster has been married several times.

As Rhonda Bodamer:
7.13.1993 Divorce Complaint for Support Order

As Rhonda Spires:
11.2.1993         Parenting         PA History w/ Tracy A Klingler
(Cory McMaster is named “Cory Cotner” at the time of this case
7.2.2002 Divorce Divorce without Children w/ Larry D Spires

As Rhonda McMaster:
9.17.2008 Appeals         Notice of Appeal w/ Rose Volkert
9.14.2011         Civil         Foreclosure
11.8.2012         Dissolution Dissolution without Children w/ Hoyt D McMaster

There are no records for Cory McMasters mother through the City of Lancaster. It was interesting, however to research her previous husband, Larry D Spires.

11.29.1994 Domestic Violence
7.31.1995 Domestic Violence

In each of these cases the defendant was with Rhonda Bodamer/ Spires with Cory Cotner/Klingler.

Larry Spires and Tracy Klingler both have multiple traffic and substance abuse violations.

Why is this important?

Cory McMaster was subjected to domestic violence, substance abuse, and an unstable household for years. This is far, far from an excuse for what he has done. What these records show is a pattern. A pattern of violence and instability.

What can be done?
In the case of Cory McMaster, there may not be much to do. The sentence has been passed. What we need, what Lancaster needs, what Amanda needs, what Fairfield County needs, is a lesson on accountability and taking charges of violence and parol violations seriously.

It will be far too late to consider all of this after a victim is killed or a child is abducted.
